Amy - Drama Tots Rugby and Lutterworth

How long have you been a Drama Tots franchisee?

I started my Drama Tots business in September 2020. It's been 1 Year and 9 months!

How many classes do you run each week?

I run 8 public classes each week and 2 nursery sessions.

Could you tell me about the other elements that make up your Drama Tots business?

Currently, I include parties, summer sessions, Christmas and Halloween Specials in my business, on top of my weekly classes.

What did you do before becoming a Drama Tots franchisee?

I trained as an Early Years Teacher and worked in a primary school for 12yrs, predominantly with the nursery and reception children.

Why did you become a Drama Tots franchisee?

I love working with younger children, hence why I trained as an Early Years Teacher. I loved teaching but the workload involved in the profession was huge and it took a lot of my time away from my family in the evenings and weekends. I knew about Drama Tots through my daughter’s nursery sessions and friends who knew Leanne. I loved the idea of still being able to teach younger children, without the added workload that being a teacher in a school gave me, and the freedom to choose when I worked. So I contacted Leanne and the rest is history!

How has your life changed since joining Drama Tots?

It has allowed me to work around family life. I am there for my children in the evening, and although there may be some paperwork or emails that need attending to, the work doesn't take me away from family for any length of time. It has given me the freedom to choose when I work and I am able to work sessions around important dates, appointments, and school events across a term.

What do you love most about Drama Tots?

I love the children! I love their faces when they turn up and are already searching for boxes before you've even started. I love the laughter that being silly draws from the children in my classes. I love the comments from parents about how much they've enjoyed themselves, as well as their children. I love being able to watch the confidence in the children grow each week until they want to sit next to you and do the Hello Song together, or give you a hug at the end of the session. I love the way the sessions are fun, exciting and engaging, and as my confidence delivering the sessions grows, I have more and more fun!

What qualities are essential as a Drama Tots franchisee?

The ability to let yourself go slightly and not be embarrassed about being silly and over the top in front of parents

Confidence when delivering sessions and engaging with families before, after and throughout sessions.

Building good relationships with children, using their names and making them feel valued.

Being organised, whether it be packing your suitcase in a way that it's easier to set up, or contacting parents and responding to emails.

Being able to support others and contribute to the team, and not being afraid to ask for help or advice when needed. Although you run your own business, working as a team is important.

What is your dream for the future?

I'd like a full week of classes that is so busy I’d need to take on a teacher. As well as having a few more nurseries to share the fun with.

What would you say to anyone who is considering becoming a Drama Tots franchisee?

Drama Tots offers you the chance to have the most fun with your job. Yes, it is hard work in the first year, embedding everything and building your area up, but it is so worth it. I started with 2 classes with a total of 8 families in the middle of a pandemic. I now have 8 classes and 2 nursery sessions.

Anything else you would like to add?

I love my job!
